Greetings citizens of the world,

Those of you in the U.S. should know that ‘Memorial Day’ is tomorrow, May 26. This video is long overdue and covers a topic that has bothered many people (myself included) over the years. Most people today associate Memorial Day with the “unofficial start of summer”, a time linked with parties and backyard barbecues. While there’s nothing wrong with having fun, what is Memorial Day about?

Memorial Day is a day dedicated in remembrance of those who have fallen in various wars. It’s a day of respect and mourning, and it’s a day of remembering and learning. A new TIME article suggests “Memorial Day should be about forgetting”, however that’s the exact opposite of what humanity needs right now.

How many wars would have been avoided had people educated themselves about various conflicts and remembered the lives lost? We don’t remember those who have fallen so we can continue to be divided over the wars they fought. We remember to remind ourselves of the great loss those wars brought, we remember to learn from the past and prevent ourselves from making the same mistakes in the future.

Memorial Day should remind us of the need for unity, if parties can help in that regard, then so be it, however never forget the wars of the past and the lives lost! For if humanity does forget, be prepared to witness those wars repeated in the future. Understanding the division we once faced is vital in learning how to prevent it from happening again.

Remembering leads to knowledge, and through knowledge, understanding. Forgetting means ignorance will follow. When the wars of the past mean nothing to you, the wars of the future will seem entirely new, along with the mistakes, but hey, who could have knew?

We are Legion,
We can Forgive,
Though we shall NEVER Forget,
Expect us.
